Facebook Inc. Endured its third major outage this Season, with Customers across the Globe unable to access the Societal network or its suite of Services like Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.
Facebook and Instagram were inaccessible on Sunday morning for many hours with both sites refusing to refresh, whereas messages were not able to be sent or received in WhatsApp or the Messengerapp.
Downdetector, a website that monitors website outages, reported problems using Facebook beginning as early as 6.30am Sunday morning in New York. The issues affected users in Asia, Europe, and the US, according to the site.
“Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the household of programs. The issue has since been solved; we are sorry for any inconvenience,” he said in an email.
The social media networks have been back up and operating at New York by 9.30am, but irate users turned to Twitter to port during the blackout.
“Okay… who broke #Facebook?” “What is wrong with Facebook,” Kularakkhita asked in a tweet from Thailand. “All Facebook providers are all down,” said Daniel Chernenkov in Israel.
In late January, the Instagram program crashed, and WhatsApp users globally were also unable to send or receive messages. Last month, Facebook faced its most prevalent and persistent system outage, with users unable to access the social network for more than 12 hours.
The outages add to the woes of Facebook, already embattled by revelations it’s failed to safeguard user data or stanch the spread of hate speech, fake news and other forms of disinformation.
